About Isle of Wight High Sheriff, Nigel Hartley MBE

With a forty-year career spanning hospice care, including working alongside the founder of the modern hospice sector, Dame Cicely Saunders, Nigel Hartley MBE has an international reputation as a teacher and lecturer.

He is an experienced published writer. Nigel’s is passionate about helping us understand the challenges and pressures around death, dying and bereavement and how some simple planning can make a huge difference to us and those we love.

Nigel knows the earlier you start to think about what will happen when you die, the easier the journey for you, your family and your loved-ones.

In his year as High Sheriff, Nigel will be championing My Life. My Death. My Plan. and is urging Islanders to take small steps by having tricky conversations, making a Will and thinking about our digital legacies. There will be expert advice and guides to how to do this, helping us transform the way we approach death and dying.
